UC Davis Box Score | Iowa Box Score
FULLERTON, Calif. - The No. 3/3 Huskies were impressive in a 14-1, five-inning victory over UC Davis in game one of the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The Huskies then pulled out a close 4-3 win over Iowa in game two. UW improved to 25-1 on the year and 19-1 in neutral games.
"This morning we did a great job attacking and being aggressive," said Hooch Fagaly. "In the second game we did great getting the job done, but overall we have to continue making adjustments every inning."
Game One - No. 3/3 UW 14, UC Davis 1 (5 innings)
The Husky offense exploded in the second meeting of the season vs. UC Davis. In the first game in San Diego, UW won 11-3 in five innings, but in this game, UW won by its largest margin of the season, 14-1.
Ten different Huskies had hits in the game, led by sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) with three. She also had two runs and two RBI. Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) had two hits and three RBI. Freshman Kimberlee Souza (Waialua, Hawai'i) also had two runs and two RBI.
The Huskies had 15 hits in the game, scoring eight runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth.
UW scored eight runs before the Aggies even stepped to the plate. Twelve Husky batters came to the plate in the first as all nine hitters reached base at least once. There were eight Husky hits in the inning.
"I think we had a great offensive day because we were all anxious to hit but also understand that we need to watch for our pitch to come," said Jerrin Fa'asua.
Senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) had a stolen base and sophomore Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) had two. Fagaly and freshman Courtney Gano (West Covina, Calif.) each had a double.
Inglesby improved to 13-0 in the circle with her 11th complete game. She allowed just one hit that took an unlucky bounce on second base.
Game Two - No. 3/3 UW 4, Iowa 3
Inglesby played a huge part in game two as well, hitting a two-run home run in the first inning to give UW the early lead. She also picked up her third save of the season, getting the final out in the seventh to secure the 4-3 victory.
"It was great that we were able to put two runs on the board in the first inning," Inglesby said. "It makes our job as a pitching staff much easier when we can take our offensive momentum onto defense and really shut teams down."
Sophomore Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) improved to 6-1 in the circle, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing three runs, just one earned, on three hits.
Freshman Kylee Lahners hit her team-leading eighth home run in the fourth as UW went up 3-0. A sacrifice fly by senior Nikia Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) in the fifth drove in the winning run.
The first Iowa run came in the fifth after a player walked and scored on a triple. The Hawkeyes wouldn't go away, scoring twice in the seventh and had the chance to get ahead. The final two runs for Iowa were unearned due to a Husky error earlier in the inning.
Kayla Massey dropped to 4-6 for Iowa in the circle as all four runs were earned.
UW will play two games on Friday in the Judi Garman Classic, taking on Notre Dame at 9 a.m. and DePaul at 1 p.m. Live stats and audio will be available at www.gohuskies.com.
