CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - It was a doubleheader day for the No. 5/7 UW softball team and the Huskies came away with two huge wins over ranked foes in Cathedral City. UW started the morning with an 8-2 victory over No. 16/14 Texas A&M and followed up with an impressive 7-5 comeback win over No. 13/13 Georgia in the afternoon.

UW improves to 13-0 on the year with the two wins and 3-0 on the weekend after defeating No. 1/3 Florida on Thursday, 5-2.

"It was a good day to come away with two wins against two good teams," said head coach Heather Tarr. "Kasey (Stanchek) threw the ball well against a really good hitting Georgia team and it was a great come from behind win in the second game."

Game 1 - No. 5/7 Washington 8, No. 16/14 Texas A&M 2
In game one of the doubleheader, UW faced a tough Texas A&M team coming off of two loses Thursday and looking to rebound. After two scoreless innings to start the game, each team got a run in the third before UW went up for good in the fourth and came out with an 8-2 victory. Each team had 11 hits in the game but three errors by the Aggies led to some UW runs.

Sophomore Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) reached on an error by the third baseman with one out in the third. Senior Nikia Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) got hit by a pitch and freshman Kimberlee Souza (Waialua, Hawai'i) hit an RBI double to right center as UW went up 1-0 on the unearned run.

With one out in the third, Brittany Walker doubled to left for the Aggies. After a fielder's choice and a single, sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) walked the pitcher, Mel Dumezich with the bases loaded to tie the game.

Inglesby got her seventh win in the circle, allowing just two earned runs with five strikeouts. Dumezich was the losing pitcher, allowing seven earned runs while walking five in 6.1 innings.

In the fourth, sophomore Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) led off the inning with a single to center. Freshman Courtney Gano (West Covina, Calif.) entered to pinch run. After junior Shawna Wrjght (Lancaster, Calif.) drew a walk on a full count, junior Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) singled to left on the first pitch to load the bases with no outs for the top of the order.

An infield single by senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) drove in the second Husky run, a sacrifice fly by Hayward deep to center field drove in two more runs. Inglesby hit a ground rule double to left for the fourth and final run of the inning.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Brittany Clopton sngled up the middle. Emily Albus hit an infield single and a single up the middle by Walker drove in the second Aggie run. Husky freshman Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) converted a double play, tagging the runner and throwing to first to end the inning and the Aggie threat.

Fagaly drew a walk to lead off the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly to center from Pohlman as UW took a 6-2 lead.

The final two Husky runs came in the seventh as Fa'asua led off the seventh with a bloop single to left. Fa'asua stole second and Pohlman singled to left. Fa'asua scored on a sac fly to center by Hayward and Pohlman scored on a Williams single and error by the left fielder.

Kayla Klein pitched the final 0.2 innings for Texas A&M, allowing just one walk.

Fa'asua led UW with three hits in the game and three other Huskies had two hits each.

Game 2 - No. 5/7 Washington 7, No. 13/13 Georgia 5
Freshman Kasey Stanchek pitched her first complete game against a ranked team, getting her fourth win of the year, allowing five earned runs on just three hits and striking out a career-high eight in the 7-5 victory over No. 13/13 Georgia in game two of the doubleheader.

UW trailed 5-3 after the third inning but Stanchek pitched a scoreless final four innings and allowed her Husky offense to rally for four runs in the final three innings to come out on top. The Huskies had 12 hits in the game to just three for Georgia.

"It was a really good team win," said Stanchek. "Our offense never quit and that's all the support a pitcher needs. We played great defense and the offense was key because we came back. Our energy in the dugout never quit. We kept our team energy up even though we were trailing and that kept me focused in the circle."

The Huskies struck first, scoring two runs off of starting pitcher Morgan Montemayor in the first inning. The Georgia pitcher pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Erin Arevalo pitched in relief, taking her first loss of the year, allowing four runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.

Pohlman doubled to center to start the game. After Hayward singled to left and stole second, Pohlman scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Williams. Hayward then scored on a bloop single to center by Inglesby.

Tess Sito hit a solo home run to center field for Georgia's first run and Ashley Pauly scored to tie the game on a ground out by Kristyn Sandberg.

The second home run of the game came from Brittany Hubbard, a solo home run to lead off the second for Georgia to center field as they took a 3-2 lead.

Williams tied the game with a solo home run of her own in the third inning to left center.

Pauly walked and Sandberg hit a two-run home run to left field as Georgia re-took the lead, 5-3, and it would be the last runs they would get in the game.

With two outs in the fifth, UW cut the lead to one, 5-4, as Souza singled to left and scored on a long single to center by Lahners.

Down to their last three outs, UW got three runs in the seventh and then three quick outs in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory.

Hayward hit a bunt single right in front of the plate to lead off the seventh. Williams drew a walk to put two on with no outs for Inglesby who hit a double to left center to give UW a 6-5 lead. Souza singled up the middle as pinch runner sophomore Kelli Suguro (Kent, Wash.) scored the final run.

UW will play its fourth game of the weekend vs. No. 11/11 Missouri on Saturday at 5 p.m.
