SEATTLE -- The Huskies men's tennis team wrapped up hosting the PNW Intercollegiates on Sunday with the doubles team of Emmett Egger and Max Manthou coming up just short in the semifinals.
Egger and Mathou had advanced through the Pacific Draw to the semis where they took on Aaron Cissold and Daniel Sardu of Oregon. The match went back and forth with neither team giving an inch and a tiebreak seemed inevitable. Egger and Mathou earned a match point, but could not convert and eventually fell, 9-8, 7-6 (5).
It was a tough loss for the duo, but as new doubles partners they will grow as the season progresses.
The other doubles team of Marton Bots and Nicholas Kamisar who had advanced to the semis of the Northwest Draw were forced to withdraw because of an injury to Bots.
The other Husky to compete on Sunday was Dragos Puscalau in the semis of the Northwest consolation round. Puscalau won the first set 6-2, but then lost the second set 6-0 and the super-breaker 10-4 to Matt Oddonetto of Idaho.
Next up for Washington will be the Nordstrom Open, another home event. The tournament takes place November 16-19 back at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
