Rogers Wins All-Around In Close Meet At Boise State

BOISE, Idaho - No. 16 UW came from behind again but was unable to edge out No. 14 Boise State, 194.400-193.425 in Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho Friday night. It is the highest score of the season for UW who is now 1-1 in 2012.
Junior Lauren Rogers (Plains, Pa.) won her first career vault title with a career-best 9.875. She also finished third on the floor with a 9.750.Senior Ruby Engreitz (Kirkland, Wash.) led UW with a 9.800 on bars and tied for third in the meet.
Rogers tied her season-best in the all-around with a 38.950 to win and Engreitz finished second with a 38.300, respectively.
Freshman McKenzie Fechter (Mequon, Wis.) and junior Megan Whitney (Mesa, Ariz.) tied for the beam title with scores of 9.800. Fechter also won her second floor title with a 9.825.
"We had great results from Meg, McKenzie and Lauren," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "We had some good bars routines, just missed some handstands. We went to vault trying to make up for it I think. Floor we are still struggling but just trying to get more reps there. If our expectations jumped after the first meet, it seemed like we were more nervous tonight. We are expecting a lot out of ourselves which isn't a bad thing but we need to stay within ourselves and do what we need to do."
On the bars, junior Amanda Cline (Aurora, Colo.) tied a season-best, Fechter set a new career-high and sophomore Aliza Vaccher (Eugene, Ore.) competed on bars and beam for the first time this season. Boise State led 48.925-48.425 after first rotation with the Broncos on vault and UW on bars.
Whitney scored a season-best 9.800 on vault and Vaccher posted a solid 9.775. UW scored a 48.675 on the event and after the second rotation trailed Boise State 98.000-97.100.
146.125-144.600 UW trailed after the third rotation. The Huskies posted a new season-high on the floor with a 48.500.
UW was once again solid on beam, posting a 48.825, a new season-high. Vaccher and Engreitz scored 9.750 while junior Paige Bixler (Rowlett, Texas) scored 9.725.
UW is on the road again next week, taking on Pac-12 foe Stanford on Jan. 22 in Palo Alto, Calif.
