Huskies Post Season-High In Narrow Loss At No. 14 Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The GymDawgs nearly pulled off their second-straight upset over Stanford, falling to the No. 14 Cardinal 195.925-195.725. Despite the narrow loss, it was by far the best meet of the year for the Huskies who recorded team season-highs not only in the overall score but on all four events.
UW posted a 49.050 on bars, a 49.025 on vault, a 48.750 on floor and a 48.900 on beam. The Huskies led Stanford after the first and second rotations.
Individually, out of a possible 27 scores, 23 were new season and/or career-highs for the Huskies.
"It was so nice to put it all together," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "We've been working on positive energy going into the meets and they handled themselves wonderfully. I think we are getting more comfortable on the road. It was a team effort. We stayed focused and went in there and did our jobs. Hopefully this will be a big confidence booster."
Junior Lauren Rogers (Plains, Pa.) placed second in the all-around with a career-high 39.175. She also placed third overall on the vault with a 9.825. Rogers had season-highs on beam and bars and a 9.750 on floor.
Fellow Junior Amanda Cline (Aurora, Colo.) won her second vault title of the season with a new season-high of 9.875.
UW had three other top-three performers in the meet in senior Ruby Engreitz, junior Paige Bixler and freshman McKenzie Fechter.
Bixler (Rowlett, Texas) was solid on beam as always for the Dawgs, placing third with a season-high 9.825. Fechter (Mequon, Wis.) has led UW on floor all season and placed third with a career-best 9.850.
Engreitz (Kirkland, Wash.) took third in the all-around with a new season-high of 39.100. She posted season-highs on floor and beam as well.
The lone sophomore on the team, Aliza Vaccher (Eugene, Ore.) competed in the all-around for the first time on the season after battling through injuries. She finished fourth with a solid score of 39.050.
Vaccher tied Rogers and senior Hatsune Akaogi (Cupertino, Calif.) for the team lead on bars with 9.825's.
The Huskies hit all of their routines on vault and beam and hit five on the bars.
After starting 2012 on the road the first three weeks, the Huskies will make their home debut vs. UCLA on Friday at 7 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena.
