SPOKANE, Wash. - In their only match of the week, the UW women's soccer team took down Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash., Sunday afternoon, 3-1. UW moves to 3-3-2 on the season.
"We had a good defensive effort today and multiple goals," said head coach Lesle Gallimore. "We were a bit disappointed we didn't get the shutout. We struggled to track people on their restarts and got punished for it, but it was a great road win and we are looking forward to starting Pac-12 play."
Senior Sarah Martinez (Des Moines, Wash.) scored the first goal of the game in the 42nd minute, her third of the season. Senior Kate Deines (Issaquah, Wash.) had her first assist of the year.
In the 67th minute, sophomore Allie Beahan (Sammamish, Wash.) scored her first goal of the season. It was unassisted and taken about 18 yards out from the left side.
Gonzaga got within one with 14 minutes left in the game as Ali Ohashi was wide open for the goal. The assist went to Sarah Rhodes.
The Huskies rebounded though and got an insurance goal from sophomore Lindsay Elston (Sammamish, Wash.), also her third goal of the year. She was assisted Martinez.
UW goalkeeper, senior Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) got the win while making nine saves.
Martinez led the Huskies with four of the teams 10 shots.
Pac-12 play begins next week for UW at UCLA.
