DALLAS, Texas - The Washington Huskies and Tulsa Hurricanes were scoreless through 90 minutes and with lightning threatening, the two teams began overtime but were stopped just two minutes in due to lightning in the area. After a 30-minute weather delay, the game re-started in the first OT with 7:50 in the period left at 5:55 PT.
Senior co-captain Brent Richards (Camas, Wash.) scored his fourth goal of the season and third game-winner in the 98th minute of the first overtime period. He was assisted by fellow senior Jake Hustedt (Sandy, Utah) from 15 yards out. It was the third assist of the year for Hustedt, a team-high.
Richards led the team with six shots and Hustedt had three.
UW improves to 3-0-2 on the year while Tulsa falls to 3-3. UW will face the host SMU Mustangs on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT.
Sophomore goalkeeper Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) picked up his fourth shutout of the season, making four saves.
Newcomer Abdual Aman, a senior from Bellingham, Wash., was added to the roster earlier in the week and made his Husky debut in the game.
The Huskies won playing a man down as junior Quinton Beasley (Camas, Wash.) picked up a red card in the 79th minute. He will not be able to play in the next game because of the penalty.
