No. 13 Huskies Drop Second Game To No. 1 ASU

SEATTLE – An unearned run in the first inning was all No. 1 Arizona State needed to take game two vs. the host No. 13 Washington Huskies on Saturday afternoon. The Sun Devils would get an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the 2-0 victory. ASU improves to 47-5 overall and 14-3 in the Pac-10 while UW falls to 32-12 and 7-10.
ASU scored in the first with two outs on an error by senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.)
In the third, the Sun Devils threatened again and got the bases loaded but freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) got a strikeout to end the inning. Inglesby got both losses on the day (20-8) for UW, pitching all 14.0 innings. In game two, she allowed just one earned run on eight hits and had six strikeouts.
Dallas Escobedo also threw every pitch in the circle for ASU improving to 24-3. She allowed just three hits in game two, had no walks and three strikeouts.
Junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) nearly tied the game in the third with a long shot to right field that was caught on the warning track.
In the seventh, ASU got its second run and with runners on first and second, Stuart made a great double play to end the inning.
With two outs in the seventh, sophomore Shawna Wright singled through the left side to bring up junior Jenna Clifton, the tying run. Clifton hit a deep ball to left field that just missed going over the fence and was caught to end the game.
Come out on Sunday at noon for the series finale and Senior Day as the Huskies honor Jenn Salling, Morgan Stuart and Ashley Tuiasosopo after the game. The team will also be wearing pink jerseys and those will be auctioned off an hour prior to the game outside of the stadium. All of the money from the auction will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation so wear your pink tomorrow.
