Sun Devils Spoil Senior Day For Huskies

SEATTLE – It was a beautiful day at Husky Softball Stadium Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Maggie Wagner sung the National Anthem, over $2,700 was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with the pink auction and Huskies fans got to see senior Jenn Salling, Morgan Stuart and Ashley Tuiasosopo play their final regular season home game.
The only bad part of the day was the outcome as No. 1 Arizona State swept the No. 13 Huskies by taking game three, 6-2. ASU remains in control of the Pac-10 race (15-3) with one weekend left and will likely be atop the polls next week with a 48-5 overall record.
The Huskies fall to 32-13 on the year and 7-11. UW has now lost four-straight Pac-10 series' and will send the conference season looking for redemption at Oregon State, May 12-14.
Freshman Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) pitched her first career complete game. She allowed 11 hits and six runs, falling to 3-5 in the circle. Arizona State also threw a new pitcher in game three as Mackenzie Popescue earned the complete game victory, allowing just two runs on four hits.
Three runs came in the first inning for Arizona State, two on singles and one on an illegal pitch.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth for ASU, a great play from Salling to sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) at home plate recorded the first out. A single however drove in two more.
ASU got its final run in the top of the seventh.
UW rallied in the seventh but it wasn't enough to overcome a 6-0 deficit. With one out, freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) walked and her classmate Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) entered to pinch run. Wright then hit her seventh home run of the year to center field.
