Live Scoring
BRYAN, Texas -- The Huskies shot 307 (+19) in the second round of the NCAA Championship on Thursday at Texas A&M's Traditions Golf Club and are 23rd out of 24 teams with two more rounds to play.
Despite their place near the bottom of the leaderboard, the Huskies and head coach Mary Lou Mulflur are keeping a positive attitude and outlook.
"It was kind of a weird day," explained Mulflur. "We started out much better today than we did yesterday and got some birdies rolling early. We had a little trouble in the middle, but then finished up pretty decently.
"We just can't get that fourth score going and that's really critical."
The result that has Mulflur most excited came from freshman Kelli Bowers, who turned in the top round among Huskies at the 6,260 yard, par-72 golf course with 2-over 74. Bowers battled through the winds and small greens to card three birdies - which equaled the team's combined total in Wednesday's first round. Mulflur said she played well beyond her youth, but her performance was not totally unexpected.
"I fully expected her to play well this week, especially after her frustrations at the regional," explained Mulflur. "I think she is just focused on being an athlete - she is a tremendous athlete - and she is just taking advantage of her athleticism."
Anya Alvarez remains the Husky that is highest in the individual standings. The senior shot 76 and is tied for 43rd at +6 (150) overall.
Bowers is tied for 63rd.
Karinn Dickinson shot 77 on the day and is tied for 98th at 157.
Sadena Parks shot her second-consecutive 80 and is tied for 106th, while A Ram Choi shot 81 and is 126th.
UCLA leads all teams at +8. They have a three shot lead over Purdue.
Austin Ernst of LSU is -6 to lead the individual race by three strokes over Numa Gulyanamitta of Purdue.
The Huskies are scheduled to start teeing off at 8:00 a.m. (CT) for Friday's third round.
