STANFORD, Calif. - With the series tied 1-1, Sunday's game ended up being the deciding game as No. 13/13 Stanford defeated the No. 11/12 Washington Huskies 3-1 in Stanford, Calif. Washington falls to 32-10 on the season and 7-8 in Pac-10 play. Stanford is 35-11 and now a game up on UW in the Pac-10 at 8-7.
Freshman Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) got the start in the circle for UW. She allowed just one run in 2.1 innings but picked up the loss, falling to 3-4 on the season. Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby entered in relief, allowing two runs on four hits in 3.2 innings while striking out four.
UW had four hits in the game and was led by Inglesby with two. Junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) and senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) had the other two Husky hits.
Stanford got its first run in the second inning with a bases loaded single by Sarah Hasssman.
With one out in the third and the bases loaded for the Cardinal, that is when Inglesby entered for Walker. She got a ground out at home and struck on the final batter to get out of the jam.
Inglesby wasn't so lucky with the bases loaded and no outs in the fourth however. She walked in the winning run and the Cardinal got the third run on a fielder's choice.
The lone UW run came in the sixth as Stuart scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.).
Washington will return to Seattle to play at Husky Softball Stadium for the first time in a month as the Huskies host No. 1/1 Arizona State in the regular season home finale, May 6-8.
