Final Stats

SEATTLE - A solo home run by junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) in the eighth inning propelled the No. 7/6 Huskies to a 2-1 victory over No. 12/9 Cal to even the series 1-1. The finale is Sunday at noon. UW improves to 28-4 and 3-2 in the Pac-10, while Cal drops to 24-7 and 2-3.

Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) picked up the win, going the distance, allowing just one run and five hits with four strikeouts. She improves to 16-2 on the year. UW handed Jolene Henderson the loss (22-5) after she got the best of the Huskies on Friday night.

Cal took the lead in the third, an unearned run. Sophomore catcher Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) made an outstanding play with two outs, picking off a runner at third with a nice throw to senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) to possibly save more runs.

The first hit of the game for UW came in the bottom half of the inning when freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) hit an infield single. UW had seven hits in the game, led by Hayward with two.

In the fifth inning, UW was close to tying the game as Inglesby reached on an error and sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Wash.) pinch ran for her. Wagner was thrown out at the plate after a single by sophomore Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) to center field.

UW would score the tying run in the sixth as freshman Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single to left field by junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.).

The Huskies improve to 3-1 in extra inning games but this was the first extra inning game of the season played without the international tiebreaker rule in effect.
