No. 11 Huskies Even Series With No. 13 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 11/12 UW softball team put itself in position to win its first Pac-10 series since April 10, with a 7-1 victory over No. 13/13 Stanford Saturday afternoon to tie the series 1-1. The deciding game will be played on Sunday in Stanford at noon. Live stats will be made available by Stanford and the links are posted on www.gohuskies.com.
The Huskies improve to 32-9 on the year and 7-7 in the Pac-10 while Stanford drops to 34-11 and back to 7-7 to once again tie with the Huskies in the league standings.
Offensively UW had a great game, racking up 10 hits against Stanford starter Ashley Chin. Senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) led the team with three hits and junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a team-best four RBI.
Washington put three runs on the board in the second inning to take the lead, and that is all the Huskies would need. Sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) started the inning with a single up the middle and scored on a single by Salling. Freshman Victoria Hayward scored the second run on a single by Williams and senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) scored the final run in the inning on an error by the Cardinal center fielder.
Stanford got its only run in the bottom of the third but the Huskies got that run back in the top of the fourth as junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) scored on a single by pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.).
In the sixth, the Huskies added three insurance runs on a home run by Williams, her team-high 12th of the year.
Inglesby got the complete game victory allowing one unearned run, four hits and striking out six. The freshman improves to 20-6 on the year.
