
Cardinal Slip By Huskies In Seventh

STANFORD, Calif. - In game one of the three-game Pac-10 series in Stanford, Calif., Friday night the No. 11/12 UW softball team dropped a heartbreaker in the bottom of the seventh to No. 13/13 Stanford, 2-1. UW has now lost five of six games and falls to 31-9 overall and 6-7 in league play. Stanford is now 34-10 on the year and a game up on UW in the Pac-10 at 7-6.
Stanford outhit the Huskies 6-4 but the first hit of the game for either team was a double by junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) to lead off the second.
The Cardinal took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the third as Corey Hanewich drove in pitcher Teagan Gerhart.
Husky pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby (freshman from Portland, Ore.) pitched her 12th complete game of the year, dropping to 19-6. She allowed two runs and struck out two.
In the top of the fourth, the Huskies tied it as junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) reached on an error, stole second and scored on a single by Inglesby.
Going into the bottom of the seventh still tied 1-1, Inglesby hit the leadoff batter who scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Gerhart.
