UW Eighth After First Round Of Pac-10 Women's Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sadena Parks shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 11th while the Husky women's golf team is collectively eighth after Sunday's first round of the Pac-10 Championships at Karsten Golf Course.
The No. 38 Huskies combined to shoot a 307 (+19) and are three strokes behind No. 10 Arizona State for seventh on the leaderboard. Second-ranked USC and No. 24 Stanford are tied atop of the leaderboard at -6. UCLA is the only other team under par at -4.
"It was a tough day today," said longtime Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We just got off to a really rough start, which was too bad because we really rallied at the end.
"We'll have a better day tomorrow. We are doing a lot of things right and we confident that we will turn things around."
Tiffany Lua of UCLA is leading the tournament after firing a 4-under 68.
Parks had four birdies during the opening round and was -2 through 17 holes before a double bogey on No. 9 (the Huskies started the round from the 10th tee). She was six strokes better than the next Husky.
"I was really pleased for Sadena. She had a tough finish, but she was really focused today and dialed in," said Mulflur.
Anya Alvarez and Kelli Bowers each shot 78 for the day and are tied for 37th. Darcie Richmond shot a 79 and A Ram Choi an 81.
Richmond is 42nd and Choi is 45th.
The tournament resumes tomorrow and concludes Tuesday.
