BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. -- The Husky women are 10th after 36 holes of the Bryan National Collegiate golf tournament and senior Anya Alvarez is tied for 19th among 90 competitors.
The No. 31-ranked Huskies shot a combined 17-over 305 on Saturday, just one shot more than Friday's 304. Teams 7 through 12 on the leaderboard are all clumped within five strokes of each other.
Wake Forest heads into Sunday's final round at +13 and leading second-place Tennessee by one stroke.
For the Huskies they are hoping tomorrow's predicted inclement weather might give them a competitive advantage.
"It was a frustrating day today," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur, whose Huskies traveled 2,800 miles across country to compete in this tournament. "The attitudes were good, we just couldn't get anything going."
"We have one more day to move up the leaderboard. The weather is predicted to be very poor for tomorrow, so we will do our best to take advantage of it."
Alvarez and junior Sadena Parks each shot a 3-over 75 at the 6,386-yard golf course in today's second round. Alvarez is +5 overall for the tournament and tied for 19th, six strokes behind tournament leader Laetitia Beck of Duke.
Parks is tied for 40th at 11-over.
Senior Karinn Dickinson is the second-highest Husky on the leaderboard at +10 and is tied for 35th.
Kelli Bowers shot a 79 on Saturday and is tied with Parks for 40th at +11.
A Ram Choi shot an 83 and is tied for 68th.
Sunday's final round will be a shotgun start and commence at 8:30 a.m.
