
No. 4/4 Huskies Fall In Extra-Inning Heartbreaker To No. 9/8 Oklahoma

FULLERTON, Calif. - In a battle of two Top 10 teams, the No. 4/4 UW softball team fell in eight innings to No. 9/8 Oklahoma 7-6 at Anderson Family Field on Saturday morning.
The game lasted nearly three hours as the Huskies fall to 21-2 on the year and the Sooners improve to 26-7. The Huskies had nine hits compared to eight for Oklahoma. Both teams had three errors each.
Washington used four pitchers in the game. Freshman Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) earned the start, allowing four runs on three hits in the first inning.
Junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) pitched the second inning, allowing two hits. Freshman Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) pitched a solid two innings, allowing just one run on two hits with one strikeout. Fellow freshman Kaitlin Inglesby picked up her first loss of the season to fall to 11-1, allowing one earned run on just two hits in 5.0 innings.
After being down 4-0 after the top of the first, UW got a run back in the bottom of the inning as junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) scored on a double to right center by junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.).
The Huskies tied the game in the second with three runs off of Keilani Ricketts. Ricketts got the win for OU and had 11 strikeouts in the game.
Senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) led off the inning with a walk. She scored when junior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) reached on an error by OU. A two-RBI double to left center by senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) tied the game.
A solo home run by Brittany Williams to left field led off the fifth inning for Oklahoma as they re-took the lead 5-4.
Salling led off the Husky fifth with a perfectly placed bunt single down the third base line. She reached third on an error by Dani Dobbs at third and scored on a bloop single to center by sophomore Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) to tie the game once again.
Washington had a great chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded, but OU was able to get out of the jam.
The game went to extra innings and the international tiebreaker where each team gets to put a runner on second to start the inning. OU got two runs in the eighth to take the 7-5 lead.
Freshman Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) pinch ran for Inglesby at second and scored on a single by Pohlman to right bu the Huskies could not get anything else across to end the game.
