Five Home Runs Lift Huskies To Win Over Irish

FULLERTON, Calif. - After suffering their first loss of the season on Thursday, the No. 4/4 UW softball team responded well with a 7-4 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies improve to 21-1 on the season and Notre Dame falls to 16-5.
"Today we just wanted to see how well we dealt with the first loss," Williams said. "We weren't stressed about it we knew it would happen eventually. Today was a team win. We had great leadership from everyone. All you have to do is see the ball and hit the ball and if you do that right you get lucky with a few home runs."
There were three lead changes in the game as the Irish took an early 1-0 lead in the first off of Husky starter Kaitlin Inglesby. The freshman from Portland, Ore., allowed four runs on 10 hits in her 11th win of the season and third complete game.
Senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) tied the game in the bottom of the inning with her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to right field.
Inglesby hit her second home run in as many days, a solo home run to left field. It was her fifth of the season as UW took a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
Katie Fleury put Notre Dame back on top in the fifth with a three-run home run off of the left field post.
Junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) got UW within one with a solo shot to left center to lead off the bottom of the fifth.
Fellow junior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) pinch hit with two outs in the sixth and hit a solo home run to tie the game to center field, her 10th of the season.
Still with two outs, junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) singled to shortstop and Salling drew a walk.
Williams hit her second home run of the day, a three-run shot for the victory.
