
No. 10/11 Huskies Win Fifth-Straight On Opening Weekend

LAS VEGAS - No. 10/11 Husky softball team (5-0) completed its sweep over UC Riverside (1-4) with a 22-3 victory in five innings on Sunday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium in Las Vegas.
The Huskies finished the SportCo Kickoff Classic hosted by UNLV as the only undefeated team on the weekend at 5-0.
Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) got her third start in the circle and had three strikeouts while not allowing any hits or runs in 2.0 innings. Sophomore Baily Harris (Longview, Wash.) entered in the third inning and picked up her second win of the season, allowing just one run on three hits. Freshman Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) closed out the game in the circle, allowing two runs on three hits in the fifth inning.
The Huskies were held scoreless in the first inning and scored 10 in the second, five in the third and seven in the fourth.
Sophomore Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) led off the second inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder. She scored on a single to right by senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.). Stuart scored on a single up the middle by junior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.). After a single by freshman Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) she stole home for a run.
Smith scored on a single up the middle by senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.). Junior Niki Williams hit a two-run home run to left field to make it 6-0.
Sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) and Fa'asua drew walks and a walk to Stuart with the bases loaded drove in another run.
Senior Ashley Tuiasosopo hit a two-RBI single to right. Singles by Creger-Zier and Smith scored the final two runs of the inning.
In the third inning, junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) pinch hit and hit a two-RBI single. Fa'asua scored on a wild pitch and Freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) singles to right to score two.
Williams hit her second two-run home run of the game in the fourth inning to left field followed by a three-run home run by Stuart.
Clifton doubled and scored from second on a UCR error. Creger-Zier scored the final run of the game.
UCR got one run in the third of off Harris and hit a two-run home run off of Jones in the fifth.
Williams and Stuart led the team with four RBIs each. The Huskies had 17 hits, led by Fa'asua with four.
The Huskies will head to San Diego next week for five games at San Diego State beginning on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. vs. Sacramento State. Live audio and stats will be available for that game on www.gohuskies.com.
