PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Husky senior Denise Dy shook off Thursday's tough defeat with back-to-back victories today in the consolation draw at the ITA All-America Championships. She moves into the semifinal round of the back draw where she will face 17th-ranked Mallory Burdette of Stanford on Saturday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
In the first major individual tourney of the year, the fourth-ranked Husky All-American went back to work despite the tough three set loss a day earlier. She faced 39th-ranked Leslie Hureau of Indiana to open, and after a lengthy first set tiebreak that Dy captured, 10-8, she rolled to a 6-1 second set victory.
Dy was back on court in the afternoon against Kate Turvy of Northwestern, who had upset 12th-ranked Stacey Tan of Stanford earlier in the day. Dy took the first set, 6-3, but Turvy pulled out the second set in a tiebreaker. Under the same scenario on Thursday, Dy could not regain the momentum, but today was a different story as she fought back to win the third set, 6-4.
