SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior Jacob Hustedt scored two goals and freshman Charlie Ranahan added a third as the 20th-ranked Washington men's soccer team beat San Diego State, 3-0, Sunday afternoon.
It was the sixth win in the last seven matches for the Huskies (11-4-2 overall, 6-3 Pac-12). San Diego State fell to 10-4-2 overall and 4-3 in the conference with the loss.
Hustedt opened the scoring 39:15 into the match when he got on to the end of a pass from Jamie Finch and slotted it in the left corner from about eight yards out.
After halftime, Hustedt struck again at the 75:52 mark. This time, he took a through pass from Brent Richards, beat the goalkeeper and tapped the ball into an open net.
Ranahan put the match away at the 86:44 mark, scoring his first goal as a Husky. Again it was Richards who provided the assist, passing to Ranahan who hit a 20-yard strike into the upper left corner.
Washington goalkeeper Spencer Richey notched the shutout, though he needed to make only one save as the Aztecs were limited to six shots. Washington took 17 shots in the match, nine of them on target.
SDSU's best chance may have come in the 59th minute when a free kick from Miles Byass sailed just over the bar, maintaining Washington's 1-0 lead.
The Huskies have some time off before closing out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 vs. Oregon State at Husky Soccer Stadium.
