
Richards' Two Goals Lift UW Over Cal

BEREKELY, Calif. - Senior Brent Richards evened the matched just before half and then finished off the Bears with his second goal in the 103th minute for the 2-1 victory in double overtime in Berkeley, Calif., Sunday afternoon.
UW improves to 8-3-2 overall and 3-2-0 in Pac-12 play while Cal falls to 3-5-4 and 0-3-2.
John Fitzpatrick scored the first goal of the game for Cal in the 30th minute, assisted by Christian Dean.
Richards (Camas, Wash.) evened the match at 1-1 just before the half in the 41st minute on an assist from freshman Andy Thoma (Los Alamos, N.M.). It was the eighth goal of the season for Richards, a team-high and the second assist of the year for Thoma.
103rd minute of double OT, Richards struck again his ninth goal of the season, scoring the game-winner, his fourth of the year, on a header crossed by fellow senior Jacob Hustedt (Sandy, Utah). Hustedt has a team-high five assists on the year.
"We didn't come out like we wanted in the first half, but coach has been talking about having belief a lot lately and we had it today, so we were able to come back and pull out a win," Richards said.
The game was fairly even as each team had five shots on goal and UW took just one more shot overall.
Husky keeper Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) got the win in goal, making four saves.
UW will play Stanford and Cal again next weekend although back in Seattle, beginning with the Cardinal on Friday at 7 p.m.
