Husky Women Turn In Tournament's Top Round

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington Husky women's golf team rebounded from an overall tough first round at the Cougar Cup on Monday with a stellar second day of action on Tuesday.
Washington's "A" team became the first squad in the field of 12 to shoot an under-300 round and is tied for third after sitting in ninth after day one. The Husky five-some of Karinn Dickinson, Anya Alvarez, Sadena Parks, A Ram Choi and Nicole Ferrero combined to shoot a 6-over 294.
"We feel like we played more to our capabilities, but we didn't play great by any means," said Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We posted the only sub-300 round so that was good."
Leading the way was Alvarez, who shot a 1-under 71 -- just one of three under-par rounds recorded in two days of action. Alvarez had three birdies during her round and two bogeys. Despite her stellar round, she is last overall in the standings after not completing her first round of action.
Dickinson and Parks each shot a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to further aid the Husky cause. Dickinson is +5 overall and third in the individual battle. She is four strokes off the pace set by Gonzaga's Victoria Fallgren. Parks is the only other Husky in the top 10 and is tied for seventh at +9.
Choi followed up a 90 on Monday with a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. She is tied for 47th in the individual standings. Ferrero is tied for 39th at +19.
The Huskies "B" team is ninth overall in the tournament. Pacing the second team is Darcie Richmond who is tied for 14th overall at +12. She shot a 4-over 76.
Freshman Kelli Bowers is one stroke behind Richmond at +13 and tied for 16th. She shot a 79 after a first round 78.
Brittany Tallman is tied for 33rd at +17, Katie Saucier tied for 52nd and Keely Lavelle is tied for 66th.
