Senior and Freshman Impress Mulflur at Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. -- In a day where adverse conditions made an already hard Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman more difficult than normal, a pair of Huskies were able to pull together solid rounds to lead the Husky contingent.
Not surprisingly, Karinn Dickinson proved her senior mettle and led the Huskies with a 3-over 75 despite strong wind, cold and rain showers. She managed three birdies on the day - tied for second most among the field of 68 - and is tied for second overall in the standings with three others who trail leader Victoria Fallgren of Gonzaga. Fallgren shot a 2-over 74 in a day when no golfers could break par.
Freshman Kelli Bowers is the only other Husky in the top-10 after shooting a 6-over 78 in front of family and friends. Bowers - who grew up in Chelan, Wash. - made her Husky debut a memorable one by avoiding huge numbers despite 25-mph winds and is tied for eighth.
"She played really steady," said Husky head coach Mary Lou Mulflur of her freshman. "She missed a couple of putts coming in, but she played well...that 78 probably would have been a 75 on a regular day."
Junior Sadena Parks trails Bowers by one stroke at +7 and is tied for 13th, while junior Darcie Richmond is 17th at +8.
In the team competition, Mulflur brought an "A" and a "B" squad to Pullman. The "B" squad is tied for seventh among 12 teams, while the "A" squad is ninth.
Action continues on Tuesday from Pullman with the final round being played on Wednesday.
