GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Husky women's golf team's season ended at the NCAA East Regional on Saturday when the team finished outside of the top-eight. Washington ended up 43 strokes over par (907) for the tournament and placed 17th out of 24 teams.
The Lee Trevino-designed Ironwood Golf Course was at its most difficult of the three days on Saturday. Nineteen of the teams carded their worst scores of the tournament. Washington shot a 19-over-par 307, one of 16 teams to shoot double-digits over par on the day.
"It wasn't a very fun way to end the season," said coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "The week didn't turn out the way we had hoped. All we can do now is look forward to the future and I'm pretty excited about who we have coming back and who we have coming in."
Molly Aronsson was the Huskies top finisher at the tournament at 9-over par 225. Washington's lone senior competing this weekend tied for 59th in her final collegiate tournament after a 6-over 78 in the final round. The rest of the Huskies' lineup this week was made up of a pair of sophomores and juniors.
Karinn Dickinson turned in the top round of the day among Huskies. The junior shot a 2-over-par 74, which included 17 pars and a single double-bogey. She ended up +10 overall for the tournament and tied for 61st.
Sophomore Darcie Richmond had one of her better tournaments as a Husky. The team only combined for four birdies on the day and Richmond had two of them. She shot a 6-over 78.
Sadena Parks had the second-best round among Huskies with a 5-over 77, but ended up tied for 78th overall. Anya Alvarez, the Huskies honorable mention All-Pac-10 golfer, struggled all week and ended up in 109th place at 23-over for the tournament.
South Carolina won the region being hosted by East Carolina University by two strokes over Tennessee. Katie Burnett from the winning team also took home individual medalist honors after shooting a 6-under-par 210.
