#14 Oklahoma vs. #3 Washington
Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso
Opening Statement:
On the Lawrie-Flores matchup: "You're talking about two great athletes. Senior versus senior, both wanting it for their ballclub and wanting to be leaders for their team. I think Amber felt honored. It's a big respect factor coming from the best pitcher in the game right now."
On Lawrie: "From what I've seen, we've never seen any pitchers like her. Last night, we were on her. But we all knew what was coming. We knew we had to be ready. We know what she is capable of. We watched her. We saw her last year. She is one of the best we've ever seen."
Oklahoma pitcher Keilani Ricketts
On the Huskies seeming different tonight: "It seemed like they were out for revenge, I guess. Great teams make adjustments and that's what they did with their pitching."
On Lawrie: "She definitely had control of the whole game, both games."
On Wright's home run: "I think that definitely gave them momentum and we just were trying to get the momentum on our side but we weren't taking advantage of our situations."
Washington head coach Heather Tarr
Opening Statement: "The game of softball, obviously sports in general, will test you. There are times in seasons where you really are tested and your backs get put against the wall. This whole season, our coaching staff has been on edge thinking, what's going to be that thing for us? And we hadn't had it. It's been an easy ride that whole time. Not much really came our way and anytime we lost; we bounced right back, it was no big deal. Last night, I think, really put us to a test. I know we had to dig really deep. We had to dig deep into our guts and into our hearts. I'm just really proud of our team. Obviously, it starts in the circle and it starts with Danielle being able to rebound from a crazy game last night. It just speaks to her and what this team, program and culture are about. It's about staying the course and loving the game, regardless of what happens. Sometimes the game kicks you in the butt, and sometime it pays you back. "
On playing at home: "It's a lot easier to hide over on the east coast and do our thing, stay in the moment and do what we do. We're loving being able to share it with our families, Seattle and of course Husky Softball Stadium. That's obviously significant to me personally, playing in the program and not having the lights, the history of it. It's harder to manage here at home. It's a tough environment to play and have lots of things weighing on us. It was good to learn to manage that as a group, as a program and we got better from it."
Washington pitcher Danielle Lawrie
On Wright:
"I think Shawna is probably the best freshman I've ever seen come into a program, to come in and have to handle me. It's not easy because you have to jump on board. There's no room for training wheels. That's just not how it is. Like I've said from the beginning, her swagger coming in, it's just unbelievable. It shows her character. She has that ability to allow you as a senior to go, when I'm on first base last weekend, to go, `she's going to get it done.' Some freshmen are different. She doesn't play like a freshman. She's my sidekick. She makes me good out there. I'm very excited for her next three years, but right now she's still in her first year."On the game plan for Flores: "We said we'll put her on and when we've got to throw to her, we've got to throw to her. But, just battle with the other eight and if you've got to throw to her you've got to throw to her."
On her last game at home: "I just stood there at home plate and put my hands up to soak in everybody. People were screaming my name and stuff. I couldn't be happier finishing Husky Stadium here."
Washington catcher Shawna Wright
On Lawrie: "She was better than I expected her to be, especially after yesterday's game. I know, me personally, I wouldn't be able to come back from something like that. For her to come back and be a stud is just really amazing."
