SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Molly Aronsson shot a 1-over-par 73 in round two of the Bruin Wave Classic and is 4-under overall for the tournament and in third place. The Huskies are seventh out of 18 teams competing at the Valley Course at Robinson Ranch with a combined score of 16-over 592.
"I'm really pleased with Molly and the way she is playing," said Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "I thought it was really important for her to come back and have a good round today, keep herself in contention and realize she can handle that situation."
Aronsson found the going a little tougher on Tuesday after shooting a career-best 5-under 67 in the first round. The Vermont-native got off to a great start with a birdie on No. 4, but suffered her first two bogeys of the tournament on No.'s 5 and 6. She played even par golf the rest of the way, collecting a pair of bogeys and birdies on the back nine, including a birdie on No. 18 to close her round.
For the second consecutive day, the Dawgs ended their day strong with three golfers carding birdie on 18. Karinn Dickinson and Sadena Parks each birdied the hole to go into the clubhouse tied with each other in 30th place at 6-over for the tournament.
Parks shot a 3-over 75 and Dickinson was 4-over 76 on the day.
Anya Alvarez duplicated Dickinson's 76. The junior only carded one birdie on the day to negate her three bogeys and one double-bogey.
Sophomore Darcie Richmond struggled to get her stroke going and shot a 90.
"I feel like we're starting to see improvement, little by little," said Mulflur. "We're looking forward to tomorrow."
Stephanie Kono of UCLA leads the tournament at 6-under - one stroke better than Danielle Kang, who was tied with Aronsson after round one. UCLA leads the team portion at even par. Pepperdine is tied for second with USC, followed by Arizona and Arizona State - who are tied for fourth.
The Huskies begin teeing off at 7:39 tomorrow morning.
