First Round Post-Round Quotes
Washington Junior Darren Wallace
"I played really well today. I hit a lot of good shots. I just didn't make the puts I needed to shoot a really low number. Definitely three through six (were the toughest stretch of holes). I finished those four holes at four-over. I had a bad double-bogey on four. And, three is just a tough hole. I made a great save on seven - I hit it in the rough off the tee, but managed to get it up on the green and two-putt from the front. I had a nice birdie on eight. I knocked it to about an inch and almost had an eagle. So, that was nice. I had a good shot on 18, then I managed to convert about a 12-footer for birdie. I, hopefully, can carry the momentum I gained from the last few holes into tomorrow. Every shot counts, especially when there are only eight teams moving through (to match play). There are several teams that can play well out here so you really have to take every shot you can get. The conditions, overall, were okay. It got a little windy throughout the round. Overall, it was alright. You get used to the wind after a while. There were a few holes where I wish there was some rain rather than the wind."

"I started off really good. I made some puts early. I got fortunate in the rough and got some good lies to make par. I kept it going on the early holes in the back, then I hit three-through-sever and tried to hold on. There were a couple of holes on which I didn't hold on very well. You are going to make some bogeys on those holes, but unfortunately I made double. But, I still held on and had a decent round. If you told me that I would shoot one-under today, I would have taken that in a heartbeat. I am kind of disappointed on how I finished on the last seven holes. But, those holes are so tough. Everybody in the field is going to make bogeys on those holes, so overall I was fine. Playing with good (playing partners) definitely helps things. Watching them play well and see what they are doing is good motivation. As a team, we played pretty solid. I don't think we finished that well, but those are the hardest holes so you kind of expect that in a way. Tomorrow, I think we will come out in the morning and make some birdies. We are going to go now, get some food and some rest. That's the key. Then we'll come out in the morning and get a good warm-up and go after it."
