Washington Post Game quotes
Head Coach Tia Jackson
Opening statement: “Like our last exhibition game it was important that we take a lot of lessons from the games that we're playing from pre-season. We played a lot of our zone defense tonight just to see where we are and areas we need to improve upon. Boxing out is one of those areas. We might've had a tad bit more athleticism and ability to get rebounds but we don't want to mistake activity for achievement. I think we had a lot of fun out there, everyone on the floor scored, and we shared the ball extremely well. We've got to take a much needed day off tomorrow and get ready for a very challenging game at Portland State on Saturday.”
On playing everyone: “I think it was just fun to get everyone out on the floor. We'll use a lot of this film for individual film sessions with the players. Areas that we can individually improve to make our team collectively better. It was fun to see the freshmen get those jitters out.”
On defensive pressure: “I think that because we changed defenses quite a bit in the second half, we ended up going to some zone and man. They ended up getting some shots off. We really pride ourselves on our aggression defensively. We're really trying to slow teams up from transitioning on us. It was good to see that our defensive pressure was causing some problems.”
Junior Sarah Morton
On intensity from guards: “We've been stressing that the whole year, getting up on the guards and playing tough defense. The people that play the two position really picking up the ball full court and slowing us down in transition helps the players get back. With that kind of pressure on the ball it's hard to get inside and it makes their offense move a lot slower. With more pressure it makes us more successful.”
Sophomore Regina Rogers
On second night jitters:
“It was my second game so I was still a bit nervous. My guards made it easier for me and with my team behind me I feel like I can do whatever and achieve anything.”
