Post-Game Quotes
Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
General Comments:
"We said last week that we did not want to discredit the effort that Seattle Pacific put forth, but at the same time we were not playing the brand of basketball that we are capable of playing. I felt like tonight we made progress in that direction. I just thought from the outset we were all pressuring the basketball. With the exception of a couple undisciplined plays at the end we did a good job of containing them. If we had better offensive rebounding and did a better job of making free throws in the first half I think our cause would've been even better. Our pressure was consistent and constant through the night."On Utah: "Utah is a very good basketball team and we will have to be better tomorrow. If we commit 12 turnovers in the first half tomorrow it will be a long first half and it will be an uphill battle in the second half.
On Quincy Pondexter: Quincy really concentrated on the defensive end tonight. He guarded [Nesho] Milosevic for a large portion of the game and did a good job of not allowing him to catch the basketball. One of the things we talked to Quincy about is being complete and having an impact on the game even if the ball doesn't come your way. Tonight he did that.
On Darnell Gant: Darnell Gant is going to red-shirt this year. That was officially decided today. Darnell is going to be a heck of a basketball player. I think that he saw that there were going to be a couple of things that he could shore up on. He felt like taking a year to figure it out may not be in his best interest.
On Tim Morris: Tim is the type of offensive player that can get into a zone and he can run off four or five baskets in a row. Tonight he was just very active and played with a lot of energy. The majority of his baskets came just off sheer hustle.
Junior Jon Brockman
General Comments: I thought tonight we had a lot more life in different areas. We were more of a team right from the beginning as far as working the ball around and taking the open shot. It was good tonight to come out and show people that we aren't the team that played against SPU. Tonight was the team you are going to see.
On Joe Wolfinger: I think everyone was really watching Wolf tonight to see that improved shot of his. Joe sat out three years for this and for most of last year he was in cast. I think this was good for him and confidence is a lot for a basketball player.
On advancing in the NIT: I want to go to New York. We said before the game tonight that this is the first step. I think a lot of people around us have already bought plane tickets so we have to perform or else they are going to New York without us.
NJIT Interim Head Coach Wendell Alexis
General Comments:
"We played against a very good Washington team. They pretty much did what they wanted to do against us. They shot over 60 percent from the field. I think it was definitely a good effort from our team, a good experience, and a positive step forward."On Washington: "We played against a very good Washington team. They have a lot of weapons, defense, they shot the ball very well from the floor when we were in our 2-3 zone. We gave up too many offensive rebounds, and that is basically what cost us the game."
On stand-out Husky players: "Tim Morris, especially in the first half. Some threes that (Adrian Oliver) hit, that's what basically broke the game open and started to work for them. We wanted to play zone and make them shoot from outside, and they hit a couple of threes that especially made us come out of it."
