PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Washington women's golf team completed the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate, Friday, finishing the day tied for 11th among the 18-team field competing at Stanford Golf Course.
The Huskies shot 23-over 307 and are tied with Vanderbilt going into tomorrow's second round. Freshman Karinn Dickinson, playing in her first collegiate tournament, led UW with a team-low score of 4-over 75. Dickinson is tied for 24th in the individual standings.
Washington's best three rounds of the day came from its three freshmen. In addition to Dickinson, Anya Alvarez shot 5-over 76 and is tied for 39th, while Nicole Ferrero shot 6-over 77 and is tied 46th. The two Husky sophomores - Christina Yoon and Molly Aronsson - are tied in 62nd place after carding rounds of 8-over 79 on Friday.
Second-ranked Duke leads the team field after one round, at 2-under 282. The Blue Devils have a nine-stroke lead over second-place and top-ranked UCLA (7-over 291), while No. 4 Arizona State sits in third place at 9-over 293. The field competing at Stanford this week includes 11 teams ranked in GolfWeek's most recent Top-30.
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst sits atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under 66 and is two strokes ahead of Stanford's Mari Chun who shot a first-round score of 3-under 68. Five players are tied for third.
The Stanford Intercollegiate continues with another 18-holes to be played Saturday and the final 18 to be played Sunday. The Huskies will tee off Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and will be paired with Washington State and Vanderbilt.
