FRESNO, Calif.-- The fourth-ranked Washington volleyball team (9-1) won its eighth match in a row Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep over Fresno State. Juniors Alesha Deesing and Christal Morrison led the Husky offense with 13 kills apiece. Game scores were 30-17, 30-21, 30-16.
Washington held statistical advantages in every category, including kills (48-34), digs (39-35), blocks (13.5-4) and hitting percentage (.406-.000).
Deesing hit at a scorching .750 hitting percentage with 13 kills on 16 wings and just one error. Fellow middle blocker Jessica Swarbrick was also locked in against the Bulldogs, recording eight kills on 11 swings with just one error for a .636 hitting percentage.
Senior All-American Courtney Thompson paced the Washington offense with 44 assists while four players had eight or more kills.
Mussie, who added eight kills, led the defense with 12 digs, while libero Tamari Miyashiro collected 10 digs.
Washington takes on UC Davis Friday at 7 p.m. in the North Gym on the campus of Fresno State. It marks the Huskies' final non-conference match before opening the Pac-10 season at home, Sept. 21-22 vs. California and Stanford.
