Game 6 Quotes- Washington
Saturday March 4, 2006
Washington Head Coach June Daugherty
General Comments:
"It was a hard-fought game and I thought we had good energy and toughness in the first half, but we were almost working too hard. We needed to stop and remind ourselves to play tough defense and take time to make good shots. I am proud of the kids for working so hard to come back. It was a classic Washington-USC battle, and their team played extremely well."
On the post season:
"I think we are in. We finished fourth in the Conference and had a 7-2 non-conference record. I would hope that five or six teams from this Conference get in; it was a really good year from top to bottom."
On Kristen O'Neill starting:
"We went with Kristen because she showed a lot of leadership this week in practice and also in the Cal and Stanford games last weekend."
On the slow first half start:
"I do not fault the effort. It almost seemed like we were trying too hard and were too fired up and then missed some uncharacteristic shots. When we slowed down and took our time, we got some good looks and shots started falling."
Cameo Hicks, Junior, Guard
On the postseason:
"We are pretty confident about the postseason. We had a good non-conference season and hope to have a good run in March."
On the first half deficit:
"We didn't talk about it, we knew that the shots would come. We have too many good players on our team for them not to come."
Emily Florence, Sophomore, Guard
On her last-second shot:
"I didn't really get a good look at the shot. I was trying to push the ball as fast as I could and couldn't find an open man, so I just threw it up there."
