Head Coach Matt Anger
On beating the team that knocked your team out of the NCAA Tournament last year:
"Every match is different. They beat us 4-0 last year, some of the points they won easily but I felt that we were in there on some of the other courts. The same thing happened today, the 4-1 score can be miss leading just because the matches were so close. I felt that we were tough tonight and we played hard and we deserved it."On Virginia's team compared to last year: "They have their whole team back, so they are experienced. I felt good about the fact that we have a lot of new guys and we were able to beat a top team that is also experienced. At this point in the year our team might not have the same experience that they do, and we were able to overcome that. It was a good win and our guys should feel good about it."
On the impact of the doubles win: "Well it took so long to get the fourth point, at this point I would say that is was great. If we had to wait longer I don't know if I could have."
On Chu coming back from having a rough match against Virginia last year: "Isn't that great. That was exactly my thought when he hit the last ball on the last point; it immediately came to my head I hadn't thought of that during the match, I thought about it coming into the match. But while we were on the court I had never thought about it. But all of a sudden I was remembering here is the guy that had his most forgettable day and he won the table to finish it off for us. It was great for us but what a great day for Daniel."
On all four players coming back from their tiebreaker losses: "Well, it looked like we did okay in the second set. I am a little concerned that we lost four tiebreakers, but I guess that is the bad news. The good news is that we were resilient and able to come back in the second set."
On Illinois if they happen to pull out the win: "We haven't played them in a number of years so they are a whole new team, and the same with Arkansas, we haven't played them in a long time so it will all be new to us. We have been to this round a couple of times now and we need to break through."
On third time the team has won in the first round of the ITA Indoor Tournament by upsetting a top ranked opponent: "I think that this one we were the most evenly seeded, I think that the other ones we were more surprising at least seeding wise. I think that this match we were a little more, we new that it was going to be a very good match. While the times before we had never been to the NCAA Sweet 16, the two other times we pulled off the upsets. Now we have been to the NCAA Sweet 16, we have done this a couple of times before and I don't think it has quite the same feeling as the total shocker as it did before. I am very happy because they are a very good team, but it is not like we saw this as a possibility."
