POST-MATCH QUOTES o MAY 13, 2005
NCAA Div. I Men's Tennis Championship - First Round
Bill Quillian Stadium o Seattle, Wash.
WASHINGTON 4, ORAL ROBERTS 0
WASHINGTON QUOTES
Head Coach Matt Anger
General Comments:
On facing USC in the second round: "We expect a very good match and a tough match. They've got a lot of good players over there so hopefully we'll be up for the challenge."
Senior Alex Vlaski
General Comments: "I think we had a good performance. We started playing well in the doubles, we came out positive. That was the main thing. In the NCAAs, everybody's giving 100% because if you lose you go home so everybody's going to be tough to play. I played well and made some good shots and didn't waste too much energy today, so I'm going to be 100% for tomorrow."
On his intensity level: "That was our thing, Coach (Anger) said we've got to be determined and it's going to depend on our eyes. If we are focused in our courts, whether we are winning or losing, if we are focused that's what makes the difference."
On facing USC in the second round: "I expect a definitely really tough match. They are tough from one through six and in doubles too. They played well in doubles today."
ORAL ROBERTS QUOTES
Head Coach Chris Milliron
General Comments:
On Oral Roberts' season: "The season has been very good. We played a lot of top-50 teams. Teams that got us ready for conference and we came into here on an eight match win streak. We would have liked to go out winning but pretty much everyone has to lose their last match. Making the NCAA for our team was a big deal. We are a small school and it was nice for us to come up here to Seattle and it was nice it didn't rain on us. The crowd was nice to us, they actually cheered for us a few times. I am happy with my guys. This is my first year coaching, I've been to the NCAAs before but never as a coach. I'm enjoying it. The coaching staff around here has been real nice to us and I wish them the best."
Senior Wessel Kemp
General Comments: "We came out here and knew the Huskies were a pretty solid team. We knew we needed to put some pressure on them from the beginning. We came out and tried and we got worked."
On their season: "The team's season was great. We had a tough schedule. We lost a lot of matches in the beginning. The conference tournament went really well, we pulled that out. We knew we were going to play one of the big teams in the first round and we came out and tried our best."
