Huskies Finish Third in Quad Meet

Corvallis, Ore. - Junior Kelly McDonald won the individual title on bars as the No. 22 Washington gymnastics team finished third in the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational. The No. 11 Oregon State Beavers (13-3) scored 195.525 to finish first in their home meet and beat the Huskies for the third time this season. Ninth-ranked Iowa State (11-2) scored 195.100 to finish second. The Huskies (10-6) scored 194.500, while UC Davis (7-11) finished fourth in the quad meet with 191.500.
McDonald, from Seattle's Roosevelt HS, scored a 9.900 on bars to stake claim to her 14th career individual title. The Huskies scored a meet high 49.000 on bars. Senior Carly Dockendorf scored a 9.850 to tie for second, while senior Tacia LaBatte and freshman Brittney Brabec scored 9.775 to tie for fifth.
The Huskies also had a strong evening on vault, scoring a 48.875, their second highest total this season. Dockendorf led the way for the Huskies with a 9.825 to take fourth, while freshman Natalie Gillan scored 9.800 to take fifth. LaBatte and sophomore Chelsea Bakken each scored a 9.775 to tie for sixth.
Senior Molly Seaman was the Huskies top finisher on beam with a fourth-place score of 9.800. It was only Seaman's second meet of the season after missing almost two months of action due to a knee injury.
Bakken paced the effort for the Huskies on floor scoring a 9.825 to finish fifth. The Huskies were forced to count falls on both the beam and floor to fall out of contention for the overall meet victory.
Washington returns to the mat next Friday, March 11 at 6:00 to face third-ranked Utah. The Huskies will then return home on Monday, March 14 to host Boise State.
