Gymnasts Finish Fifth at Pac-10 Championships

Berkeley, Calif. - The 23rd-ranked Washington gymnastics team (13-11) finished fifth with a 194.425 at the Pac-10 Championships this afternoon in Berkeley, Calif. Third-ranked UCLA won the meet with a 197.100 to earn its fifth Pac-10 title in the last seven years. No. 19 Arizona was second, followed by No. 12 Oregon State and unranked Stanford.
Junior Kelly McDonald (Seattle, Wash., Roosevelt HS) was the Huskies top performer, tying for fourth on both bars and beam. McDonald scored a 9.900 on beam and a 9.850 on bars. The Huskies did not win any individual Pac-10 titles for the first time since 2000.
Senior Carly Dockendorf (Port Moody, B.C.) was the only other Husky to crack the top five in an individual event, tying for fifth with a 9.875 on floor. Dockendorf was the Huskies' only all-around performer and finished last out of 14 competitors after having to count a 8.450 on bars towards her total of 37.850
UCLA's Kristen Maloney and Tasha Schwikert tied for the all-around title with each scoring a 39.700. Maloney took first on vault, beam and floor, while Schwikert took first on bars, scoring the meet's lone 10.000.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they will host the NCAA Regionals at Bank of America Arena at 5:00 p.m. Six of the top teams from the nation will be competing for two automatic team berths into the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala.
