UCLA and Penn State Advance from Gymnastics West Regional

Seattle - Washington's season ended on Saturday after placing third at the West Regionals in Bank of America Arena and failing to qualify any individuals to the NCAA Championships. Second-ranked UCLA and No. 11 Penn State finished first and second to advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala. on April 21-23.
The Bruins scored 197.025 and the Nittany Lions scored 195.375 to edge the Huskies for the second automatic qualifying spot. Washington scored 195.00 while Stanford was fourth with 194.750. Boise State was fifth with 194.500 and Central Michigan was sixth with 194.125.
Carly Dockendorf was seventh in the all-around, missing advancing to the NCAA's by .075 points. Tasha Schwikert was first in the all-around, followed by teammates Kristen Maloney and Jordan Schwikert. Penn State's Kristal Uzelac was fourth. Stanford's Tabitha Yim and Boise State's Lindsay Ward were fifth and sixth respectively, earning the two automatic berths to the NCAA's reserved for individuals on non-automatic qualifying teams.
Despite not qualifying for the NCAA's, Dockendorf and the Huskies remained upbeat. "Before the night, all we wanted to do was finish the meet with no regrets and that's exactly what we did. Everyone gave it 100 percent, no one held back, we all looked aggressive and that's all we can do."
The Huskies started the evening on bars, where they scored a 48.600. Kelly McDonald led the Huskies with a 9.775, good enough for sixth-place. The Huskies moved onto beam for their second event and tallied a 48.750, their second-highest score this season on the apparatus. Once again, McDonald led the way for the Huskies with a 9.900 to finish third overall in the event. Chelsea Bakken added in a 9.825 and Carly Dockendorf scored a 9.800.
Washington moved to floor for its third event and the Huskies riled up the 1,962 fans with a solid performance. Carly Dockendorf led the way for the Huskies scoring a 9.900 in her final collegiate floor exercise to finish third. Bakken was the second-highest Husky finisher with a 9.825 to tie for fifth.
The Huskies wrapped up the evening on vault where they scored a 48.675. Bakken was the top Husky with a 9.8, good enough to tie for ninth.
The Huskies last advanced to the NCAA Championships in 1998. Tonight marked the last meet in the careers of Dockendorf, Molly Seaman, Tacia LaBatte and Kim Lewis.
