Husky Gymnasts (8-1) Off to Best Start Since 1984

Boise, Idaho - The No. 21 Washington Husky gymnastics team scored a season-high 195.000 points to defeat Boise State in front of 1,821 fans on Friday night at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. The Huskies bettered the Broncos on the vault, bars and beam to improve to 8-1, their best start since the 1984 season when they went 29-3 and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Natalie Gillan won her first-ever individual title, claiming the vault with a 9.825, while junior Kelly McDonald claimed the 13th individual title of her career, scoring a 9.875 on uneven bars. Freshman Brittney Brabec finished second overall in the all-around behind Boise State's Lindsay Ward, who won all-around and beam.
The Huskies scored a season-high 48.650 on beam to distance themselves from the Broncos. Boise State's Lindsay Ward won the event (9.850), but the UW's Julie Medeiros recorded a career-high 9.775 and sophomore Chelsea Bakken equaled her teammate's score to secure second place for the Huskies. Senior Carly Dockendorf scored a 9.750 for fifth, while redshirt-freshman Nikki Waiss and Brabec tied for sixth with 9.675.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, February 11 at 7 p.m in Bank of America Arena and will face Pac-10 rival Oregon State and the Southeast Conference's Arkansas Razorbacks.
