Arizona State Coach Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Rob Evans
General Comments:
"We played really well, we did everything but win the basketball game. We outrebounded by ten, we executed pretty well, we forced 17 turnovers, and only had 17 turnovers against the pressure. We did everything, but win the ball game. Key stops at critical times didn't allow us to win the game."
On Robinson rebound and layin:
"That was a key play, that's blocking out, and details; I am always talking about taking care of details. At the timeout I told everyone to put a body on somebody, but those things happen, they are young kids."
On Ike Diogu:
"He does it everytime, Ike is a tremendous talent and a tremendous player. He is an even better person than he is a player. He is a great player, and comes to play every night."
On Second Half:
"I thought we showed a little bit more patience in the second half than we did in the first half. Ike (Diogu) was working extremely hard to get open, and we were getting the ball to him."
On Washington:
"They are a dangerous basketball team, not just Tre Simmons, they are all good players. They have got talented athletes, they will beat you off the dribble, and they can shoot the ball. That is why they are ranked as high as they are. They have got a great basketball team."
WASHINGTON HEAD COACH Lorenzo Romar
General Comments: "I don't know who we were out there, but they were like Joe Fraiser. They just kept coming at us and they and they played at a very high level. Ike Diogu was just phenomenal, that's all that I can say about him. That kid is a heck of a player. Give our guys a lot of credit for staying with the task at hand, as Trey Simmons had another amazing game for us offensively. Hakeem Rollins didn't score, but he was a presence down low. We definitely didn't do a very good job on the boards tonight and I think that hurt us. We didn't take very good care of the basketball, yet we held them to under 40 percent. We also shot the ball very well from three."
On a lot of fouls called: "We haven't played a game against Arizona State in three years where it hasn't been physical like that. That is just the nature of our game when we play each other, we both play a very physical style."
On Trey Simmons injury: "I wasn't really worried about it, in practice guys get hurt all of the time. We knew that he would bounce back, we just wanted to make sure that we were full strength until he could return to the game. Even with the foul trouble and the short injury, our guys did a great job of staying together."
On seniors playing hard to end season: "When you look out there you have guys like Hakeem that are not scoring a lot of points, but he was still a key because of how well he was playing defensively. Will Conroy was playing real hard and Trey Simmons came out real hot from the beginning. The seniors have definitely been playing well for us."
On Nate Robinson foul trouble: "I just told Nate to make sure that he kept his head in the game. A lot of guys feel like when they get that fourth foul that they can't play as hard any more because they don't want to get their fifth. You have to have the proper mindset to go back in and help your team and it was pretty obvious when he went back in that he was ready to play."
