HEAD COACH June Daugherty
Comments: "I liked our intensity. I just felt all week that this team has done a better job at really focusing on what we need to improve upon. I was just happy for them because we had three good days of practice before Oregon State. We were way more focused in terms of what we wanted to do offensively and defensively. We were disappointed with the outcome in LA and felt like there were some certain areas that everyone needed to work on, coaching staff included. I think everybody took it to heart. We know what this team is capable of, and they showed a little glitter and glimpse of it tonight."
On the improvements focused on in practice: "First of all we wanted to handle their press, because we had 29 turnovers in Corvallis. We were very fortunate to win down there with 29 turnovers. When we did break the press we wanted to attack. We told Emily [Florence] to get her Wheaties and go. We wanted her to push the ball as much as she can and she had a lot of support. We wanted to stay very aggressive and take care of the basketball and make sure we were attacking the press because we had a lot of three-on-ones."
On improvements on offense: "I think we have made a lot of progress in that we're beginning to understand that you have to set your teammate up off screens and you have to make the extra pass against the zone. We have been getting better and better at that and tonight it was stellar."
GUARD Kayla Burt
On her buzzer-beating half-court shot: "They threw in a long inbounds pass and I stole it with not much time on the clock. I kind of hesitated because I saw Emily out of the corner of my eye and was going to pass to her but at the last second I just threw it up. It felt good and I thought it could go and it swished."
On practicing half-court shots: "In practice today we were all shooting from half court at the end of practice and Mike [Daugherty] told us to stop because he said it was going to ruin our shot. You have to practice it sometime because you never know when it is going to come up in the game."
GUARD Cameo Hicks
On the game: "It was a great game and everyone played hard. I think we are finally learning how to play hard for 40 minutes. We talked about wanting to get into our running game and that helped us tremendously tonight. We had multiple fast break opportunities and I think that is what got us sparked."
On fast break offense: "Tonight really showed that if we keep our intensity up and keep our running game up we can put the other team in a lot of trouble."
On rebounding from last week's losses in L.A.: "Those were two close games but I think we learned more than we were frustrated. We learned that we could battle back from a 25-point deficit."
