Men's Tennis Team Undefeated in Doubles at Fresno State Bulldog Classic

Fresno, Calif.-- The Husky men's tennis team started the season off with winning half of its singles matches and all of its doubles matches during the first day of action at the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State, Friday.
Junior Daniel Chu led the charge in singles for the Huskies, defeating his opponent, Marco Foelz 6-2, 6-1, in the Flight A singles Round of 16.
Sophomores Klaus Jank and Andy Kuharszky suffered tough losses in the Flight A Singles round of 16. Kuharszky was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Charles Irie of Fresno State and Jank lost to Eric Roberson of Boise State 6-4, 6-2.
In Flight B singles, UW freshman Andy Gerst was able to advance into the Round of 16. Gerst defeated Allan Kelly of Pacific 6-4, 6-2, in the opening round, but lost a close match to Tom Liversage of San Diego, 7-6, 6-3.
Also in Flight B singles, sophomore Mike Ricks overcame his Fresno State opponent, Sam Tadevosian. After having won the tie breaker in the opening set, Ricks was able to roll to a straight set victory, 7-6(3), 6-4.
In Flight A doubles action, brothers David and Daniel Chu paired up against Pacific's Kelly and Zdravkovic after an opening round bye, where upon the Chu brothers used their court chemistry to roll to a 8-3 victory in the quarterfinals.
Jank and Kuharzky tallied off two straight wins, 8-6, over Eric and State Roberson in the opening round of 16, and in the quarterfinals the duo prevailed over Modoc and Irie of Fresno State 8-6. The sophomores will compete in the semifinals Saturday, along with the Chu brothers.
Gerst and Ricks captured a 8-3 victory over Foelz and Jackson to advance to the Flight B doubles semifinal round.
Action will continue all day Saturday and Sunday at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic.
