Husky Golfers in Second Place at Fall Preview

Bend, OR - The seventh-ranked Washington women's golf team carded an opening round of 1-over 285 to trail third-ranked Duke by two strokes after the first round of play at the Fall Preview. Second-ranked Georgia trails Washington by one stroke while UCLA, the top-ranked team and defending NCAA Champions, is in eighth place at 295. The tournament is Washington's first event of the season. This year's Preview is held at the Meadows Golf Course at Sun River, the site for the 2005 NCAA Championship.
Husky junior Paige Mackenzie led the Washington charge with a 3-under 68. Mackenzie got off to a fast start, carding four birdies during her first seven holes. A pair of bogies on eight and nine dropped her back to two-under before picking up another birdie on the back nine.
Junior Sung Ea Lee and sophomore Amber Prange both shot 1-over 72. Freshman Kim Shin, playing in her first collegiate event, shot 2-over 73. She also got off to a hot start with birdies on three of her first four holes. Sophomore Ashley Bickerton rounded out UW's scoring with a 2-over 74.
Duke's Brittany Lang posted a 7-under score of 64 to take a three-stroke lead in medalist play. Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin and Kristen White of Ohio State both shot 4-under 67. Mackenzie is one of four players knotted in a tie for fourth place. Lee and Prange are tied for 16th
