
Husky Golfers in Sixth Place at Ihlanfeldt Invitational

Sammimish, WA - The second-ranked Washington women's golf team is tied for sixth place after the first round of play at the 23rd-annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club. Washington shot 22-over 310 Monday and trails eighth-ranked Oklahoma State by 14 strokes for the tournament lead. Pepperdine, ranked ninth, is in third-place at 10-over 298, two strokes behind OSU.
Oregon is in third place at 12-over 300 while Southern California is fourth at 304 and 20th-ranked Stanford is fifth, two strokes ahead of the Huskies at 308. California, ranked 21st, is tied for 11th while 22nd-ranked BYU is in eighth place.
"I think were a little tight, being the hometown team and coming off a good week last week at the Fall Preview," said Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Maybe we put too much pressure on ourselves. We'll come back and play great tomorrow. They're great players and have all been playing really well for us, so I think we'll get back into it."
Washington was led by freshman Kim Shin, who shot 4-over 76 to tie for 15th place after the opening round. Sung Ea Lee, Paige Mackenzie, Ashley Bickerton each shot 78 among the Husky scoring players and are tied or 25th. Amber Prange posted an 80 and is 41st. Courtney McCracken are playing as non-scoring individuals. McCracken shot 78 while Wang posted an 80.
Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin posted the opening round's best score with a 2-under 70. She was the only player in the field to break par. She managed four birdies and a pair of bogies during her round. Three players, including Oregon's Johnna Nealy, Stanford's Jenni Tangtiphaiboontana and Pepperdine's Eileen Vargas are tied ofr second at 73.
The second-round of the tournament is slated to start at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. The final round gets underway at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Monday's play was delayed 90 minutes due to heavy fog at the course. Live scoring of the event is available at golfstat.com
