COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Washington women's soccer game scheduled to be played on Friday, Sept. 17 at Maryland was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.
The teams went through warm-ups but nearby lightning forced officials to delay kickoff for 30 minutes. Once that time had passed, the threat of tornadoes in the area was upgraded from a "watch" to a "warning," forcing the cancellation.
The game will not be rescheduled as Maryland was required to travel to Florida on Saturday for an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Miami on Sunday.
Fourth-ranked Washington (5-0) was looking to match its best start in history with six straight wins. The Huskies won their first six matches in 2000 and went on to capture its only Pac-10 Championship.
The Huskies remain in Maryland to play Loyola (Md.) College at College Park on Sunday. Kick-off is 9 a.m. Pacific Time (noon Eastern).
