WASHINGTON
HEAD COACH JUNE DAUGHTERY
General Comments: "This was obviously a disappointing loss. We went up by seven points with four minutes to go and I thought that we played solid defense for thirty-six minutes and for whatever reason that second half we weren't matched up and gave them too many open looks. They have talented players and they were shooting the ball well and they knocked their shots down. Defensively it was disappointing, because even though we didn't shoot the ball well, I thought that defensively we took them out of what they wanted to do, except for that last four minutes and I don't know where we went. I thought that UCLA did a good job of taking us out of our rotation. We had our chances to walk away with a win, and that definitely didn't happen."
On coming back after a loss: "We need to get back into the gym tomorrow and we have to be mad about this. This was disappointing and we have to get ready to take it out on somebody."
On last four minutes: "The big thing is when switching up defenses like we did in the second half. We were switching player to player and then went to the zone. We needed to talk, because we were switching everything and they run a lot of different sets on top and they run the weve. You always have to know where you're at and I think down the stretch we didn't communicate enough and that cost us the ball game."
On Noelle Quinn and Nikki Blue: "She was one of the top recruits in the county and after she's come off that stress fracture she's been playing great ever since for them. Nikki Blue really is as good as advertised. If we leave people wide open they are going to hit the open shots."
GUARD Giuliana Mendiola
On losing the lead in the last four minutes: "I thought that we were getting a lot of momentum in that stretch, but we had a lot of mental break downs. We can't be having those this late in the season. We have been giving away games because of our lack of focus. We pretty much gave this game away. I'm mad at the way we ended the game and hopefully people will have some pride come Saturday."
FORWARD Jill Bell
On performance: "They were physical all over the place. They were hitting us when we were trying to cut."
