WASHINGTON
HEAD COACH JUNE DAUGHTERY
General Comments: "It was obviously a hard fought game, but our kids just ran out of steam. We didn't hit shots down the stretch like we did against Arizona State and we weren't able to capitalize on that. I think they gave what they had today and it falls the way it falls. Arizona at the end, has to be commended, they're a heck of a team. They played very very well today. They have so many weapons, and they have so many ways of wearing you down offensively. Its difficult not to let our seniors go out with a win, but I think they know that the team played really hard; they left out there, and at this point that's all we can ask for.
On Shawntinice Polk: "She's an amazing talent, everybody knows that. She has very very good hands. With the triangle offense that they run, they clear out the back side a lot and you have to get their quick because with her hands and feet, as quick as they are, she's going to get the shot off. She's a load to play against and I thought that at times we did a good job on her. But I think it was her offensive boards that really hurt us.
On Arizona's depth: "Not only is it their starting five, but you see it with the people that come off the bench. They just continue to find ways to run people at you at both ends. They are very athletic; they mix it up. They certainly took us out of our tempo. But I thought our kids hung in there, I thought they fought hard."
On Washington's turnovers: Again it goes back to Arizona's athleticism. They're just so incredibly deep. It really hurt us in our rotation and we were very sloppy. They were fresh in there and it took us out of tempo and made it tough. They forced us to start taking a lot of three point shots and that's not what we wanted to do."
GUARD Giuliana Mendiola
On game: "Well obviously, I'm kind of upset that we lost. We fought real hard, but me and Andrea just didn't shoot the ball well. I think that just blew the game. We've just got to focus on getting back into the gym and getting ready for the big Pac-10 Tournament."
On Husky fans: "Well the crowd has been supporting me and my family for four years and all I try to do is play hard for them. The crowd means so much in getting our team going and we just try to play our hearts out. I definitely won't forget this experience that they definitely helped make it unforgettable."
