Husky Gymnasts Win Cancun Invitational

Cancun, Mexico - The 15th-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team opened the 2004 season in impressive fashion by defeating 12th-ranked Iowa and 13th-ranked Oklahoma to win the Cancun Invitational. Washington scored 196.450 to take first-place honors in the meet that also included Texas Women's University. Iowa was second at 195.350, Oklahoma was third at 195.150 and Texas Women's was fourth at 189.175.
Husky senior Emily Pritchard (Buckley) led Washington by winning the bars by tying her career best score with a 9.975 performance. Pritchard was second in the all-around scoring 39.500. Iowa's Alex Maday won the all-around with a score of 39.650. Washington's Kelly McDonald was fourth at 39.225 she placed third on vault at 9.850 while Kim Lewis was third on bars with a career-best score of 9.900.
Washington's team score was the 12th best in school history and the fourth best score recorded at a road meet.
The Huskies next meet is Jan. 16 when Washington plays host to California and Sacramento State in a three-way meet at Bank of America Areana.
