Seattle - The fourth-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team improved its record to 5-0 by defeating California and Sacramento State in a three-way meet at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The Huskies scored 195.850 while the Golden Bears were second at 193.600 and the Hornets third at 188.900.
Husky junior Emily Pritchard (Buckley) led Washington's win by finishing first in the vault (9.950) and bars (9.950) competition and also won the all-around with a score of 39.600. Carly Dockendorf finished first on floor exercise with a 9.950 score and Molly Seaman took top honors on beam with a 9.900 to give the Huskies a sweep of all of the events. Seaman's score tied here career high in the event.
The meet was the start of a busy weekend for Dockendorf. Saturday she will compete in the pole vault at Washington's indoor track meet at Dempsey Indoor.
"I plan on breaking my person best and going 13 feet," said Dockendorf about her weekend track goal. Tonight I thought we did really well. We stayed focused and intense throughout the meet. There was a little mental lapse on floor but we'll learn from our mistakes. It's early in the season
Washington took the early lead during the meet and never trailed. The Huskies opened the competition by scoring 49.275 on vault while Cal managed a 48.775 on bars. During the second rotation Washington increased its lead with a solid 49.200 on bars while the Bears suffered several falls on beam enroute to a 48.950 score. The Huskies only disappointment waqs a sub-par 48.575 score on floor.
"We did really well, but we could have done much better, especially on floor," said Washington coach Bob Levesque. "I think it was a mental lapse because we did so well during our first meet in Cancun. I'm really pleased that we did not have to count a fall. Most of all I was excited with our vault effort. In Cancun, that was our weak event. Tonight, we increased our start values and it made a difference. We have little areas to improve on, but the routines are there. They are physically ready and we're excited to go to Oregon State next week."
The Huskies travel to Corvallis for a Jan. 23 dual meet.
