Washington's 92-68 win marked the largest margin of victory over Stanford by any Pac-10 opponent since Oregon State defeated the Cardinal, 87-61, on Mar. 9, 1991. The loss was just the 13th by 20 points or more in Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveere's 18-year Stanford career.
Washington's margin of victory was its second-largest ever in the UW-Stanford series, bettered only by an 86-59 Husky victory on Jan. 8, 1987. The Huskies' 92 points were also its second-most in series history, bettered only by the 95 points scored in an eight-point UW win on Feb. 24, 2001.
Junior guard Giuliana Mendiola tallied 20 points, marking her fifth-consecutive game, and seventh in 2002-03, with at least 20 points. Over the Huskies' last five games, Mendiola has averaged 25.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists.
The Huskies earned a split with Stanford for the fourth time in the last five years, and defeated the Cardinal at home for the third time in the last four seasons. Overall, Stanford holds a 25-13 edge in the series, its smallest margin against any Pac-10 opponent.
Washington, which was outrebounded by 27 in the first matchup between the two teams this season, limited the Cardinal to just 28 rebounds total, while pulling down 37 of its own. The Huskies have outrebounded their opponent in six of the last seven contests, after having been outrebounded in five of seven to open Pac-10 play.
The Huskies' 13 three-pointers marked the fourth time in the last six games that Washington has made 10 or more threes. Washington is 8-0 this season when recording double-digits in three-point field goals made.
After holding a slim 18-15 lead with 12:21 remaining in the first half, Washington went on a 19-4 run over the next six minutes, sparked by seven points from junior guard Giuliana Mendiola.
